Wit.ai, a startup founded in 2013, was recently acquired by Facebook. Wit.ai is a leading developer of applications and voice control interfaces. Wit.ai employs a team of 6,000 developers who have created a vast array of apps.
The acquisition of Wit.ai by Facebook seems to indicate a move toward an updated Facebook app that is centered on voice to text options. Voice to text options are ideal for Facebook updates and its Messenger system.
The value in Wit.ai’s technology is the ability to transform an application to accept speech recognition with just a few lines of code. A Wit.ai spokesman had this to say about the acquisition, “Facebook has the resources and talent to help us take the next step. Facebook’s mission is to connect everyone and build amazing experiences for the over 1.3 billion people on the platform – technology that understands natural language is a big part of that, and we think we can help.”
It will be exciting to see how this acquisition improves our use of Facebook and their apps.
