While in the past branding efforts have largely focused on television advertising, print ads and billboards, today’s savvy marketer understands that branding must also include social media. Brands looking to reach younger markets must look to social media as a way to reach their target. Your brand can use these tips to craft a successful social media brand strategy.
1. Pick Your Platform. Choosing the best platform for your target market is essential. Not all social media platforms are going to reach the same people. A brand looking to target men 18-35 will have very little need for Pinterest, a social media platform that is predominately female.
2. Set a Strategy. Ask critical questions before beginning your branding campaign. Consider who will create and manage campaign posts; an internal resource or a hired social media company? How often will you post? How many different social media platforms will you utilize? How will you customized your message to each platform? What percentage of your budget will be allotted to this campaign? How will success be measured?
3. Content is King. The content created for the campaign shouldn’t focus exclusively on promoting your brand or products. It’s essential to create content that brings value to the consumer. You must be viewed as a resource or consumer won’t come back. Ask these questions before posting: Is my content eye catching? Does it provide value to the consumer? Is the content thought provoking? Would someone share this post with their friends and family?
4. Keep Researching. Social media doesn’t allow for stagnation. You must stay up to date on current trends and topics important to your target market. Keep an eye on the competition and what they are posting as well.
5. Mobile Matters. Today people spend more time on their smartphones and tablets than they do on their PCs. Take the time to ensure your content will look good on the small screen.
