The sharing of information via social media plays a significant role in how we interact, market and promote our companies. Let’s look at how the various social media outlets fare in the competition to capture social shares:
- 84.3% of all social shares appear on Facebook.
- Shares on Facebook increased 11.9% year over year.
- Twitter captures 5.8% of social shares; a decrease of 3% year over year.
- Shares to Pinterest decreased 5.3% to 2.9%.
- Blogger showed an increase in social shares to 4.8%.
Looking at the various categories of information shared on social media, we see that categories are dominated by different sites.
- Health & News and People & Society shares are most likely to show on Facebook.
- Sports related shares are most likely to appear on Twitter.
- Beauty & Fitness, Home & Garden, Food & Drink, and Shopping category shares are most likely to show on Pinterest.
