Mission The goals of the programs are to: provide vulnerable children with access to computers to bridge the technology divide; improve their learning skills to strengthen their academic performance; provide them with the tools to develop marketable skills; and help them take advantage of employment opportunities in order to permanently overcome the cycle of poverty and abuse. Description The Orphaned Starfish Foundation (OSF) has provided vocational training to more than 4,700 orphans and vulnerable children since its establishment in 2001. A 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City, OSF currently operates 20 computer centers in 9 countries, including Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ethiopia, Haiti, Mexico, and Panama. General Information In each location, we set up and operate computer-training facilities and support instruction. The curriculum includes training in word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and a variety of Internet applications. We also provide job placement assistance as well as college scholarships for the most successful students.
