- In the spring of 1929, Niles E. Russell founded Russell Standard Corporation to distribute municipal supplies throughout southwestern Pennsylvania. Within two years, Russell Standard began operating as a general contractor and was awarded contracts to expand several municipal parks. By the late 1930s, Russell Standard was building rural roads to facilitate the transportation of agricultural goods to and from local farms. Soon after, the company began distributing liquid asphalt for road building. In the following decades, paving crews, hot mix asphalt plants, and liquid asphalt emulsion plants were added to the Russell Standard family of products and services. Niles Russell operated his company with an acute awareness that only the most reliable contractors would consistently win new projects and that understanding became the foundation of the companys work ethic. The success and growth of Russell Standard Corporation can largely be attributed to its adherence to that core principle. In 1992, Russell Standard expanded its reach of services by adding Hammaker East, LTD to its portfolio. As a subsidiary, Hammaker East has been providing the community with quality asphalt emulsion products and services at since 1923. Through research and testing, Hammaker East is committed to developing innovative new products to better serve our customers. Russell Standard maintains the capabilities and expertise to build any highway or roadway from the base up, making the project a complete turnkey operation. Our commitment to safety, quality and craftsmanship is the signature we leave on each and every project we touch. The Hammaker East main offices are in Fayetteville, PA with operations that include plants in Chambersburg, PA, Baltimore, MD, Black Mountain, NC. Hammaker East Emulsions, LLC, a sister company to Hammaker East, LTD operating in Greensboro, NC.
