• The Vane Brothers Company has served the maritime industry in the Port of Baltimore and along the U.S. Eastern Seaboard for more than 100 years. Today, Vane operates out of seven locations, from the ports of New York, Philadelphia and Baltimore down the East Coast to Norfolk, Charleston, Savannah and Jacksonville. Since establishing a ship chandlery in 1898, Vane Brothers has always exemplified a commitment to quality and excellence. While the chandlery no longer exists, it has been replaced by a fleet of more than 120 tugboats, barges and freight boats ready to meet the ever-changing challenges of the maritime industry. Over the years, the Vane Brothers Company has worked to set the standard of excellence in the maritime industry with state-of-the art equipment, seasoned crews and a commitment to safety. When Captain William Burke Vane first came ashore in 1898, he sought to find a better way to serve sailors. By continuously reinventing the company, Vane Brothers has thrived in an ever-changing industry while retaining the spirit of a small family business. Three generations of the Hughes family have been integral to the success of the company since entering the picture in the 1920s. Today, under the leadership of C. Duff Hughes, the company is stronger than ever and remains dedicated to safety and customer satisfaction.
