• In 1856, Charles Wallace Ruland founded what is now the Ruland Funeral Home. Initially operating as C. W. Ruland Funeral Services, he worked from his home and provided undertaking services and caskets to families in the greater Patchogue area. The Ruland family understood the importance of establishing a state-of-the-art facility for their familys endeavors and, in 1906, began construction on a building specifically designed and dedicated to providing funeral services. Up until this time, funeral parlors were merely converted Victorian homes. Through the 40s and 50s, funerals became more elaborate and the Ruland family foresaw the desire for larger rooms and greater parking facilities. In anticipation of this need, the Ruland family broke ground on a new and expanded facility located up the road from their old funeral parlor. In 1958, this new facility was completed and serves as our current home. In the late 1960s, Mr. Vincent Romeo began employment at what was now called the Ruland Funeral Home. Eventually, Mr. Romeo purchased the firm from the Ruland family in the early 1970s. This marked the first time in over 100 years, that our firm transferred ownership from one family to another. In 1978, Vincent Romeo added to the existing Ruland Funeral Home with a formal portico for arriving families and expanded the building to include two additional chapels highlighted by custom stained glass windows. Mr. Romeos sudden and unexpected passing in 1994 thrust his wife Antoinette into a more active role in the daily operation of our firm. In 2001, David Romeo, proudly joined the firm as a director and worked alongside his mom until her passing in early 2011. Today, David Romeo continues the legacy handed down from C.W. Ruland and his own parents by providing dignified and affordable funeral and cremation services to the greater Patchogue-Medford area.
