• Orion Planning + Design is a women-owned firm consisting of leading planners from across the country. Five partners are members of AICP and four are AICP Fellows. Each planning partner has led a distinguished planning career for many years, including a strong component of local government experience. One partner, Oliver Seabolt, is an award winning landscape architect and urban designer. The firm was formed to bring together partners who know each other well, and have a common philosophy of planning and design and the business of consulting. An important element was having a firm with many years of practical public experience as well as success in private consulting. Orion has a deep and abiding respect for the role of local government and the daily challenges faced by dedicated local staff and elected officials. We have interviewed, hired, and managed the work of consultants on behalf of the agencies we represented as local government planners, and now we are responsible for the production of high quality work as consultants.Three of Orions projects recently won awards. The Greensboro Consolidated Plan won an award from the North Carolina Chapter of APA and is being used by HUD as an example of a sustainable housing plan. The American Society of Consulting Planners presented us an award for the study Sustainability and Efficiency Opportunities for the Comprehensive Plan Update for Greensboro, North Carolina. And, along with Arnett Muldrow, we received an Outstanding Project award from the Mississippi chapter of APA for the Brandon Downtown Plan.Services: Comprehensive Planning; Land Use Planning; Urban Design; Sustainable Development Planning; Special Area Planning (e.g. corridors, neighborhoods, downtown, infill); Visioning and Concept Design; Site Planning, Analysis and Review; Land Use Management; Code Development, Review and Analysis; and Board, Staff, Customer Service Training, and public engagement.
