- Founded at a kitchen table by three patients and a caregiver, the Pulmonary Hypertension Association has rapidly grown to support a patient population that has grown from 187 known cases in the early 1990s to tens of thousands today. PHA connects patients of this rare and terminal illness to the nationwide network of patients and support groups that constitute our community of hope. PHA's structure also includes two medical associations (physicians and allied health professionals) and works with leaders in pulmonary hypertension research and treatment to fund the ongoing search for a cure. Rated a four-star charity by Charity Navigator for ten consecutive years, PHA remains committed to providing patients, caregivers and medical professionals with the education, networking and advocacy tools they need to fight back against PH.
