• Putnam County Operation Life is committed to providing quality out-of-hospital health care. Serving Putnam County Since 1974, Operation Life is the designated agency responsible for the out-of-hospital care and transportation of persons who become acutely ill or injured, and are in need of ambulance transport to a hospital using advanced life support (ALS) ambulances. The men and women of Putnam County Operation Life provide service with respect, integrity, and compassion 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Operation Life responds to an average of 8 requests for service per day and more than 3,000 runs per year. Operation Life has three stations: a headquarters station in Greencastle, a northern district substation in Bainbridge and a southern district substation in Cloverdale. Putnam County Operation Life runs three advanced life support units as standard staffing, each crew is comprised of an Indiana licensed paramedic (EMS-P) and an Indiana licensed emergency medical technician (EMT).Medical Direction for Operation Life is provided by Indiana University Health Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis, a constant which has been in existence for decades. Operation Life was the first rural EMS agency receiving medical control from Methodist Hospital, and our relationship today provides us with expanded scope protocols to meet the needs of our patients & healthcare delivery partners.
