- Founded in 1955, Young Musicians Foundation (YMF) exists to unify communities through exceptional classical music experiences for youth. We believe that young musicians at every stage of their development deserve high caliber music instruction in a supportive environment.YMF provides opportunities for youth of all socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds to develop their abilities and passion for music during the pivotal early years of their careers. By nurturing creativity and emotional expression through classical music, we enrich quality of life. YMF strives to expand current audiences and develop future ones by creating greater access to exceptional musical experiences. Our eight interconnected music programs provide an introduction to musical instruments and technique in addition to scholarships and performance opportunities for advanced students.YMF currently offers eight programs serving approximately 750 young musicians and over 4,000 audience members annually: Debut Orchestra Teaching Artist Program Chamber Music Series Scholarship Program Music Director & Conductor-in-Residence Music 360º Debut Concerto Competition Artistic Management Training ProgramNow celebrating its 60th season, the Debut Orchestra is one of the oldest pre-professional training orchestras in the country. It is comprised of 70 talented musicians from around the Los Angeles area, ages 15-25. With notable alumni including Glenn Dicterow, Concertmaster of the New York Philharmonic, Robert Chen, Concertmaster of the Chicago Symphony, and dozens of members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, virtually every major symphony orchestra and film score feature performers who began their careers in this orchestra.
