• The story of Davis Family Dairies begins in the 1930s, when Stan Davis took on an apprenticeship in the butter business. In the 40s, Stan and his creamery provided butter to the war effort, building strong relationships with local farmers in the process. Now, two generations later, our dairies are some of the most successful and innovative in the industry. Davis Family Dairies employs just over 100 people. Weve gotten there by training and working with the people who get that our mission is to make the things we impact better. In fact, our head vet, Tom Jinkinson, was hired straight out of the veterinary school at the University of Minnesota. Hed participated in the Dairy Education Center at our New Sweden location, and we knew he was the perfect fit. Thats what we look for. People who share our values. People who believe in our mission. People who will grow with us, but also help us grow. We manage about 20,000+ cows and calves total, and 7,500 more are born each year. At this scale, even our smallest decisions make a huge impact. When we hire staff and buy feed from local farms, were helping build a strong community. When we manage our land responsibly, were saving or recycling a lot of natural resources. And by working with students and researchers, we are developing practices today that will lead to even more humane, efficient and socially responsible ways to help feed our world Each day, we produce about 570,000 gallons of milk. This milk production results in a daily production of approximately 70,000 lbs. of cheese. In addition, whey proteins and lactose are harvested at the cheese plant and are supplied to many companies that utilize these ingredients in food, nutraceutical and pharmaceutical products consumed in the United States and around the world.
