• A century ago, when the people of Pensacola called for help and asked for better healthcare, the Daughters of Charity responded. The Daughters came not only to build a hospital, but to carry out their charitable mission of providing excellent healthcare to all people, with special attention to the poor and vulnerable. The hospital was constructed on Twelfth Avenue during the summer of 1915 and officially opened its doors to the community on September 1, 1915. Today, the hospital continues that same mission. Pensacola remains the hub of what has become a truly regional health system with three hospital campuses, as well as outpatient facilities, physician offices and other healthcare services spanning 200 miles of the Gulf Coast, from Gulf Shores, Ala. to Apalachicola, Fla. Through faith, determination and the support of our Foundation donors, Sacred Heart has made miracles happen for families across the Gulf Coast. While technology has advanced, buildings have grown and services have expanded, the commitment to the mission and vision of the Daughters of Charity has remained the same over the past century. Sacred Heart Health System continues to build upon our heritage to keep the dream and the mission of the Daughters of Charity alive in every aspect of our healthcare ministry.
