• Founded in 2010, Urban Squash Cleveland is an after school enrichment program for inner-city Cleveland youth. Urban Squash Cleveland combines academic support, instruction in the sport of squash, community service, mentoring and life skills to impact the lives of middle school children in Cleveland.The Mission of Urban Squash Cleveland is to provide support for students from disadvantaged backgrounds in Cleveland, OH and empower students to become their best selves through academics, athletics, and personal growth.Our students practice three days a week with us and spend 50% of their time in the classroom receiving academic support and 50% of the squash court learning the game of squash and participating in various fitness activities.In January 2012 we started with one class 15 of 6th grade students. In year two we served 25 students in the 6th and 7th grade. In year three we will serve 35 students in 5th-8th grade. All of our students participate in a tryout period. Students chosen for Urban Squash Cleveland are picked on their attitude, effort, ability and commitment level, not just academic acumen or athletic ability.Urban Squash Cleveland operates programming six days a week. Monday through Friday we meet from 4:00-6:30 and Saturday from 10:00-12:30. We use both the Cleveland State University Recreation Center and the Case Western Reserve Veale Athletic Center as practice sites.
