Our first product, Freespira, is an FDA-cleared treatment for Panic Disorder (PD) and the symptoms of panic (including panic attacks) which clients use twice-daily at-home for one month under the supervision of a healthcare provider. Freespira is commercially available and therapists nationwide are successfully helping patients achieve freedom from debilitating panic. The foundational clinical research was conducted at Stanford and other leading research institutions. A randomized-control trial reported that 96% of patients reported a reduction in panic symptoms and more than 60% were panic attack free post-treatment; these rates of improvement remained stable to 12 months post-treatment. Freedom from panic greatly enhances quality of life and ability to function effectively in work and everyday life. Panic Disorder patients have frequent panic attacks and seek frequent care in the emergency department (ED) since they misinterpret their panic symptoms as a serious medical condition. They are among the highest users of ED services for any behavioral health disorder plus average six to ten primary care or specialty medical visits per year, far exceeding expected health utilization based on physical health. To address the underlying condition driving this high utilization, payers are funding programs in partnership with Health Systems and PAHS to offer Freespira to their members with PD.
