• Davis Oil Co. got its start in 1966 as Katz-Davis Oil Co. It was a partnership between Richard Davis and Lew Katz. Richard was a former employee of Marathon Oil and before that, Speedway 79, Lew was a Fuel Oil Distributor that he called on. Lew Katz retired in 1975 and the name was changed to Davis Oil Co. Davis Oil started out as a fuel oil delivery company. Later, they purchased a few small service/gas stations. In 1974 James Davis graduated from Western Michigan University and started working full time in the office. In 1975 Davis Oil decided to be one of the first gas stations in Southwest Michigan to try self serve gas.Then in 1980 they were again one of the first stations in the area to start converting their service stations into convenience stores, and C-Stores Inc was born. From Battle Creek they expanded into Kalamazoo, Grand Rapids and many other towns in Southwest Michigan.In 1990 Richard Davis retired and Jim Davis became the new President of Davis Oil Co/C-Stores Inc. In 1999 the third generation, Ben Davis, graduated from Central Michigan University and Started working full time.Davis Oil has grown from a small fuel oil delivery service into one of the largest Marathon Jobberships. They currently have 19 company operated C-Stores, 2 full size JD's Car Washes, and supply gasoline to 27 dealer locations.
