These physicians enter the U.S. health care system as residents in U.S. graduate medical education (GME) programs, where they receive medical specialty training and provide supervised patient care. ECFMG provides a range of programs that support physicians as they pursue GME, medical licensure, and professional development in the United States; specifically ECFMG Certification is required by the ACGME for IMGs to enter residency training in ACGME-accredited programs.
