• The Twin Cities Womens Choir is a diverse community that sings, performs, and affirms the voices of women. We're a performing, non-auditioned women's choir that strives for musical excellence. We're an inclusive, affirming, ethical, and fun community. We expand the library of women's choral music by commissioning pieces and supporting women composers. We foster community through collaboration with local artists and organizations. We enhance communication and reduce our environmental impact by embracing technology.TCWC began with 16 women conversing at a restaurant in August 1997. By the end of the meeting we had a volunteer director and accompanist, 14 singers, and $200 to purchase music. Our dream was to have 100 diverse singers, sing challenging music while producing a unified sound, develop a solid audience base, obtain and maintain financial stability, perform two concerts each season, commission music for womens choirs, develop community connections through outreach concerts, and to do all of this while having fun.The choir has developed a unique sound under the direction of Mary Bussman, Artistic Director Emerita, and continuing under Artistic Director Janice Hunton. We've grown to 150+ singers, more than tripled our audiences, established a small ensemble called ENCORE!, recorded four CDs, and commissioned 21 compositions and many arrangements for womens voices. We sponsor an emerging female composer composition contest and perform three concerts annually.
