• Palma Ceia SemiDesign (PCS) is developing a library of low-power, high-performance analog and RF intellectual property (IP) for emerging WiFi, LTE, and wireline applications, including 802.11ac, 802.11ax, 802.11ad, 802.11ah, 802.11af, and M2M. PCS licenses its burgeoning library of IP to developers of, and wafer foundries producing mixed-signal semiconductors.PCS does not deliver chips or wafers, but the physical layout (called GDSII files), or blueprints in binary form for select analog and RF componentry to be integrated into a customers chip design. Those chip designs are completed by SOC providers and made into chips by merchant foundries (like TSMC, UMC, Global Foundries, Samsung) using advanced manufacturing processes (called process nodes). PCSs addressable markets include both SOC providers and the merchant foundries that produce their chips where the Company focuses on IP for advanced process nodes (40nm and below) with the most pervasive demand. Current third-party availability for analog and RF IP is primarily for older or lower performance applications; and most vendors are small, design services firms, rather than owner/licensors of IP libraries. PCS is engaging with major IC companies worldwide where it has executive relationships; it charges license fees to develop and integrate select analog & RF IP (data converters, PLLs, etc.) for emerging wireless standards like 802.11ac; and collects a royalty from the sale of products embedding the IP. Project/IP selection is critical PCS retains ownership of the IP cores and further monetizes them by (a) re-licensing them to new customers and products using the same process node; and (b) employing proprietary techniques to rapidly port them to other process nodes.
