• Todays focus is the procet; Biodome Reykjavík - In the Heart of the Capital - A new edutainment' attraction reinforcing healthy community. The Biodome Reykjavík project addresses two main challenges. People are increasingly losing touch with nature, especially in urban areas. By offering access to a green world year round, we create an opportunity to increase environmental awareness and at the same time invent new, sustainable infrastructure in the field of tourism.. Four biodomes will be constructed next to a geothermal spa. The core attribute of the concept is urban farming - food production, sales and experiences. The location, next to a geothermal spa, was chosen because it presented a great market opportunity. The spa is an important meeting point for the local community and a popular tourist attraction as well. Over 700 thousand guests visit the spa on a yearly basis. The opportunity evolves to expand the unique atmosphere of the spa and create a new inspirational place. The spa and the biodomes form a sustainable cluster where the human resources are key elements. In the centre of the cluster, the largest dome contains a rich tropical environment. This will be a multi-functional space with reception and information area, specialized restaurant, kitchen, rest rooms and a small visitors shop. Two smaller domes are specifically devoted to the farming; aquaponics, organic horticulture and a study area. . The harvest will be prepared and consumed at the restaurant and also sold separately in an on-site shop. The business model is mostly based on income revenues from the local community and tourism; admission fees to guided tours and sales of refreshments, as well as fees for courses. Rent revenues for events are also foreseen. The experience the biodome provides, which has a pattern of recycling energy and nutrients and a tropical atmosphere, gives visitors ample opportunities to revitalise, physically and mentally.
