- The mission of the Wildlife Waystation is to rescue and provide sanctuary for exotic animals from around the world as well as native wildlife. It is also our mission to educate the public about the global plight of wildlife, especially near cities. In 1965 the Wildlife Waystation was the first exotic animal sanctuary to be established in the U.S. when wildlife lover and expert, Martine Colette, took in her first exotic animal. Since its inception, the Wildlife Waystation has provided shelter and care to over 76,000 animals and currently houses over 400 animals. These animals come from all over the world and from many different situations. The 160+ acre enclave is fully licensed and is one of the most diverse facilities of its kind in the United States. The Wildlife Waystation was created in response to the lack of existing facilities designed to help and house wild and exotic animals. The Wildlife Waystation is a national non-profit 501(c)3 charitable organization, supported solely through donations, bequests, fundraising events, memberships and animal sponsorship programs.
