• In February 1968, Stephen L. LaFrance, a registered pharmacist, formed Stephen L. LaFrance Pharmacy, Inc. The family-owned company has since evolved into a retail drug store chain and distributor with an extensive controlled label line of merchandise.The company's evolution accelerated in the mid-1970's with the formation of SAJ Distributors, a full-service wholesale distribution company. SAJ Distributors provides a broad selection of health, beauty, and general merchandise to grocery, drug, and discount stores. SAJ's distributes over 22,000 items to more than 1,000 customers from a four-story, 255,000-sq. ft. storage facility at its corporate headquarters in Pine Bluff, Arkansas.In 1984, the first USA Drug store opened in Pine Bluff, Arkansas. Over the past 20 years, the USA Drug family, which includes USA Drug, Super D Drugs, May's Drug Stores, Drug Warehouse, Med-X Drugs and Ike's Discount stores, has grown to more than 170 stores with retail outlets in Oklahoma, Tennessee, Mississippi, Missouri, and Arkansas.In 1986, Stephen L. LaFrance Pharmacy, Inc., formed Select Brand Distributors - its own low priced line of merchandise with quality and ingredients comparable to the national brands. Select Brand products have grown to become one of the best-packaged brand alternative line of products in the country with over 650 Select Brand items.
