- Platypus LLC is a Pittsburgh based company that provides environmental monitoring solutions for water bodies using autonomous robotic airboats.Platypus was spun out of Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute in 2012. The spin out has been done with financial and mentoring support by Innovation Works, the Centre for Technology Transition and Enterprise Creation and Project Olympus. Platypus is working with several public agencies and private companies to determine the boats full range of use, as well as identifying the extremity of environment in which it may be employed.
