- H.O.M.E.S. provides supportive Housing for Youth after Foster Care.Florida's care system ends on a youth's 18th birthday! With either no families, or perhaps toxic families, they have no one to which to turn and nowhere to go.Many, as high as 75%, become homeless and are at high risk of falling victim to substance abuse and crime. Their prospects for completing their education and obtaining a job with living wages are statistically dismal. They lack role modes, supportive loving families,safe housing and even basic economic assistance. The system refers to such young adults as TIL YOUTH - Transitioning Independent Living Youth.At H.O.M.E.S. we provide shelter and so much more for youth aged 18-24. Our goal is to stabilize their lives and move them forward to self-sufficiency. Almost all of our youth were in fact homeless before arriving here or about to become homeless because their pre-18 living arrangements were coming to an abrupt end. Most arrive with nothing but a small garbage bag of clothing.We provided: quality affordable apartments, home furnishings, volunteer mentors, job coaching, paid internships, job placements, education counseling, financial capability instruction, emotional support, stability and so much more for these at-risk youth.Other H.O.M.E.S., current projects include: 13th St. corridor revitalization, homeownership for economically disadvantaged, Funky Flamingos 2nds Thrift Store and a City Farm Community Garden.
