• Our Mission is to to empower refugees through opportunities that provide for their Well-being, Education and Employment. The Vision of Friends of Refugees is to see Refugees experiencing Abundant Life in Flourishing Communities. We currently serve refugees through 8 programs: Refugee Family Literacy; After-School Tutoring; Refugee Career Hub (formerly Cafe Clarkston) for Job Placement and Computer Training; Summer Camp; Community Gardens; Embrace Birth Support (Doulas for refugees); Youth Mentoring; The Refugee Sewing Society; Start:ME Business Accelerator in partnership with Emory Goizueta Business SchoolCore ValuesPartnership. To effectively accomplish our mission, we strive to relate well to not only those we serve, but also those with whom we serve. We partner with churches, donors, funders, volunteers, businesses, development organizations, and community members to leverage relationships in impacting lives.Empowerment. Working with the vulnerable carries the risk of creating dependency. FOR prioritizes initiatives which offer a path to greater self-sufficiency. We create opportunities for accountable, supportive and effective decision-making where people are free to contribute not only to their own well-being, but also to that of their families, neighbors and communities.
