- In 2015, Sam Parfitt brought together a world-class group of athletes, coaches, and sport psychologists to discuss the state of sport. From that forum, The True Athlete Project was born. Every member of the team believes sport can be a transformative force for good, both for individuals and for society as a whole. But while we recognize the immense power of sport, we are also aware of the harm sport can bring. Think discrimination, doping, bullying, performance anxiety, depression and a win-at-all-costs culture. As a result. many never realize the beauty in becoming a true athlete. We hope to remedy the condition of sport with an innovative, mind/body/spirit approach. We mesh mental skills training, mentoring, meditation, mindfulness, tai-chi, creative expression and more! We help coaches to provide enjoyable, meaningful and healthy experiences. Our approach is unique: it not only nurtures mindful individuals and a compassionate society. It also improves athletic performance! What could be better than that?! Our aim? To change the world, one true athlete at a time!
