- The National Storytelling Network (NSN) brings together and supports individuals and organizations that use the power of story in all its forms. We advocate for the preservation and growth of the art of storytelling. NSN was founded in 1973 with the first National Storytelling Festival held in Jonesborough, TN. We are a member-driven organization with current enrollment of 1,400 individuals and affiliated organizations. We were affirmed as an IRS 501c3 charitable organization in 2000. Within NSN, special interest and discussion groups provide on-going educational support for professional development, training and mentorship in the areas of: Healing Arts Alliance-directed to organizations and individuals who are interested in using storytelling to develop programs or projects that examines cross-cultural communication, health care access, conflict resolution and social justice, prison and immigration reform; Storytelling in Higher Education-encourages cooperation, networking, and support among college and university educators in storytelling and those with an interest in storytelling's success in higher education and academic studies; Storytelling in Organizations- Brings narrative insights into the contemporary business scene by documenting and promoting the constructive role and widespread importance of storytelling in corporate, non-profit, small business, education, and other settings; Producers & Organizers-develop cooperation, networking and support among organizers of storytelling events, such as performance series, workshops, festivals and conferences; Youth, Educators and Storytellers-engages and mentors youth storytelling coaches, teachers, teaching artists, librarians, and full-time storytellers who view storytelling as a vital, essential art, as well as student storytellers
