• The National Womens History Museum is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to educating, inspiring, empowering, and shaping the future by integrating women's distinctive history into the national narrative. Toward that end, NWHM is working to build a world-class museum at the National Mall in Washington, D.C. the nations premiere symbolic space.Legislation to create a bipartisan, privately funded congressional commission charged with producing a plan for the Museum (including its governance, organizational structure, operations, fundraising and location) passed out of the U.S. Congress on December 12, 2014 and was signed into law by President Obama on December 19, 2014. (Note: The National Museum of African American History & Culture and The National Museum of the American Latino were also established via commissions.) Although women constitute a majority of the population, their diverse experiences, achievements, contributions and overall impact on this nation are grossly underrepresented in the telling of history.
