Musical artists are not stupid, in fact quite the opposite, and while many artists have team members who are able to help them through understand the complicated world of music money flow (publishing, recording, merch, sponsorships), there are many artists who dont have the wherewithal and thus even the basic knowledge of what money they are earning.
