• A credit union is a truly unique financial institution one which is owned by its members.  It is a not-for-profit, democratically owned organization, and thats one of the primary reasons why a credit union differs from a commercial bank or savings and loan. Unlike other types of financial institutions which need to generate profits to satisfy stockholders, we return excess earnings to our member owners in the form of higher dividend rates on deposit accounts, lower interest rates on loans, and low (or no) fees! Everyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Autauga, Butler, Chilton, Coosa, Crenshaw, Elmore, Lee, Lowndes, Macon, Montgomery, Russell and Tallapoosa counties is eligible to join Guardian Credit Union.  Chartered in June 1958, we began by making short term travel loans to full-time technicians in the Alabama National Guard.  Today we continue to serve all active and retired members of the Guard, as well as members of many other organizations.  Our strength has enabled us to merge with Montgomery Railroad Credit Union, Industrial Relations Credit Union, and COMALA Credit Union.  Over the years our range of products and services has grown as our membership expanded but our commitment to professional, personalized service remains the Guardian hallmark.
