Unsung Heroes aims to promote awareness and appreciation for the workers who keep our universities running smoothly and efficiently behind the scenes, but often go unrecognized and unappreciated. The unsung heroes include, but are not limited to: janitors, construction workers, food & service workers, bus drivers, etc. We seek to highlight their portraits of humanity by interviewing the worker, and sharing their unique personal stories with the rest of the campus community via social media. Many of these unsung heroes have shared stories that highlight things about their personal lives, their backgrounds, or share uplifting words to motivate the students. While sharing stories increasing the awareness of these workers and highlights their importance in our community, we are also working to show appreciation to these unsung heroes - through various random acts of kindness. For example, our most recent project involves helping one of Georgetown University's custodial staff with his catering business. We raised $2000 for his business and used him as a vendor, serving over 150 students. We made a video and will be sharing it with Georgetown's student body in the upcoming weeks. Our ultimate goal is to create a stronger bond between the workers on campus and the student body. Every Unsung Hero has a story. We just have to take the time to listen and show a level of acknowledgement.
