• Family Mentor Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charity established to connect community resources and children who need them most. Family Mentor Foundation began in 2013 with a mission to create services and partnerships that help fill in the areas lacking in a childs life. Today, Family Mentor Foundation seeks to help meet the unmet needs of children in our community through a variety of programs and resources that will help a child reach his or her fullest potential. We partner with local schools in Columbus and Worthington to distribute child-friendly, nutritious food to 250 hungry children every weekend during the school year. These children qualify for free breakfast and lunch programs during the school week but do not have access to this vital source of food during the weekend. Food is purchased with the support of local donors and collected through community food drives. Bags of food are then assembled by volunteer groups and are distributed through the schools. Each Buddy Bag is filled with kid-friendly, nutritious, nonperishable and individual sized foods. It includes easy-to-prepare meals and snacks that will help sustain the children when schools are not able to provide meals. Each weekly Buddy Bag contains 2 individual microwavable meals, 1 individual shelf-stable milk, 2 individual fruit cups, 1 individual vegetable cup, 2 granola bars and 2 oatmeal packets. And a jar of peanut butter once a month. During the 2014 - 2015 school year, 150 students were served four times each during long breaks from school equaling 600 large backpacks. For the 2015 - 2016 school year, Family Mentor Foundation provided 250 students with food each weekend during the school year for a total of 8,250 bags of food. 125 of those students were in the Worthington School District, and 125 attended Columbus City Schools. There is currently a waitlist of 1,200 children to be a part of this program. We need your help to meet this need!
