- Founded in 1999, Frankies Friends' mission is to find cures and save pets with life-threatening conditions. Frankies Friends saves pets by giving grants to help with the cost of lifesaving emergency or specialty care for pets whose families cannot afford the full cost of treatment. Pet families are responsible for a portion of the cost of treatment for their pets according to their financial ability. The doctors who treat the pets also provide discounts in treatment costs. Frankies Friends about $750,000 annually. Money raised by the foundation in a particular geography is used to support programs within that region.In addition to grants for needy families, Frankies Friends has other special programs:- With a grant from the Tampa Bay Lightning Foundation, Frankies Friends created the K-9 Heroes First Aid course for professional handlers of police, search-and-rescue, military and other similar-service dogs. The course is offered throughout the US in cooperation with specialty/emergency hospitals at no cost or low cost to participants.- Frankies Friends assists in funding the medical rehabilitation of wildlife cases at BluePearl Veterinary Partners wildlife clinic in Tampa.-Frankies Friends funds the cost of housing for Tuskegee University veterinary students for externships in specialty hospitals. (Funds are currently available for externships in the Tampa Bay area only.)-Frankies Friends funded seven $5,000 research grants to veterinarians in small-animal residency programs throughout the US in 2015-16. The research projects cover a variety of topics, including anesthesia, radiology, clinical pathology, emergency care and oncology. - Frankies Friends educates pet owners about the impact advanced medicine can have on a pets life.For more information about the foundations impact, please visit frankiesfriends.org
