• Front Range Airport (KFTG) is the last general aviation (GA) airport constructed in Colorado and is one of the largest land mass GA airports in the United States with just under 4,000 acres of land, surrounded by a 6,000-acre, non-residential, master planned industrial complex and tens of thousands of acres of dry land farming extend in all directions from the airport. Because of the decline in general aviation, our traffic is approximately 21% of our runway capacity, down from 50% in 1999. Under normal conditions, a facility that is grossly underutilized would not have a good future. However, by turning the weakness of grossly underutilized into a strength excess capacity, Front Range Airport is positioned to become a horizontal launch and recovery spaceport. When combined with DIA, there is not another parcel of land in the United States that is better suited for a commercial point-to-point horizontal launch spaceport than Front Range Airport. Spaceport Colorado could be one of the worlds premier spaceports. 2013 may be the most important year of the Airports twenty-nine years of development as the feasibility for a spaceport will be determined and the infrastructure that is in place will be used as a springboard for accelerated growth with spaceport as the driver.
