• As a key resource for more than 50 years, we provide for the immediate needs of Chicago's homeless through shelter, food and casework, while initiating individualized solutions to transition clients into sustainable housing and long-term self-sufficiency. Recently designated as a 4-Star charity by Charity Navigator, We are one of the largest agencies caring for the homeless of Chicago, so we recognize that shelters resolve homelessness on a temporary basis. Through excellent casework and partnerships with other organizations, like Rush Universitys Community Service Initiatives Program and the Chicago Alliance to End Homelessness, Franciscan Outreach transitions hundreds of homeless individuals into permanent housing each year, in addition to the daily provision of more than 300 beds and more than 700 meals. Franciscan Outreach runs Franciscan House Chicagos second largest homeless shelter. It is open every night of the year regardless of the weather and has sleeping accommodations for 257 individuals. We provide our guests with a nutritious dinner, a hot shower, a warm bed, and a satisfying breakfast. We also offer our guests a mailing address and medical services.Our Marquard Center Soup Kitchen is also open every night of the year. On an average night, we serve a hot nutritious dinner to 115 homeless and low-income men, women and children. This facility also offers a day program, a mailing address, a shower, and Chicagos only drop-off laundry service for the homeless. While our shelter and soup kitchen meet the immediate needs of our guests, we also use them as points of contact to engage them in our case management program. Because many of our guests are unaware of the services available to them, case managers help them to access the services for which they are eligible.
