• ECS Publishing Group traces its roots back to 1921 in Boston, when E. C. Schirmer Music Company was founded. It is also the parent company of Galaxy Music Corporation, MorningStar Music Pubulishers, and the record label ARSIS. E. C. Schirmer Music Company remains one of a few American independent classical music publishers in business today. Although it was founded in Boston in 1921 by Ernest C. Schirmer (nephew of music publisher Gustav Schirmer), there has never been a direct relationship between the E. C. Schirmer and G. Schirmer music companies. The company remained in the hands of the Schirmer family until 1985, when Robert Schuneman became the principal owner and President. Galaxy Music Corporation was founded in New York in 1931 by George Maxwell. In 1989, E. C. Schirmer (Galaxys distributor in the U.S. at the time) purchased Galaxy and moved all operations to Boston. In 2014, ECS Publishing expanded to include MorningStar Music Publishers, a publishing house known for its role in producing sacred music. In addition, the office moved from Boston to St. Louis, MO. Mark Lawson, MorningStar owner and president since 1997, is now president of ECS Publishing Group.
