• Vermont Information Technology Leaders, Inc. (VITL) is a nonprofit organization that assists Vermont health care providers with adopting and using health information technology, to improve the quality of care delivery, to enhance patient safety and to reduce the cost of care. VITL is legislatively designated to operate the health information exchange (HIE) for Vermont, and is governed by a collaborative group of stakeholders including health plans, hospitals, physicians, other health care providers, state government, employers, and consumers. Our Mission: To collaborate with all stakeholders to expand the use of secure health information technology to improve the quality and efficiency of Vermonts health care system.Our Vision: A transformed health care system where health information is secure and readily available when people need it, positioning Vermont as a national example of high quality, cost effective care.The Vermont Health Information Exchange:A health information exchange (HIE) is a secure computer network that connects the electronic health information systems of different health care providers, enabling those providers to share clinical and demographic data of patients they have in common.Benefits of the Vermont Health Information Exchange (VHIE):Quality - It gives health care providers access to more complete, comprehensive and current patient data, resulting in the right treatments and services for better quality of care.Safety - Provider access to data such as medication history helps them to make better decisions and prevent errors in prescribing medicines and other treatments.Efficiency - Providers can view health reports from other facilities, avoiding duplicate lab tests. Patients will not have to repeat tests for different health care providers.
