• Through the guiding light of God's Spirit, Guiding Light partners with individuals to fulfill their God-given potential through Rescue, Recovery and Re-Engagement in community. Guiding Light Missions StatementGuiding Light's focus is to connect men with jobs and with programming that ensures successful addiction recovery. As we assist me in re-engaging with our community, we've built several new bridges to complete the process from program entry to sustained recovery and spiritual maturity.Our Back to Work program helps the chronically unemployed become re-engaged in the job market through job coaching, resume creation, access to a computer lab and phones. Our program allows 30 days to find a job, but most find a job within a week. The men stay here free of charge and save their pay for post-program housing. In the first 3 1/2 years of this program we have helped over 600 men re-engage with community and find employment. The Guiding Light Recovery Program is tough, but compassionate. We have zero-tolerance, random drug screening to protect the men in the program. We mandate work-reciprocity: that is, our men work in the kitchen, in security, as janitors, and in all manner of odd jobs. The program is approximately 6-7 months total, with active employment beginning in month 5. Afterwards, the men can apply to live at Iron House, our transitional housing facility in Kentwood, MI.Iron House is a set of three apartment buildings, housing 12 units to rent as transitional housing for those who have completed our Guiding Light Recovery Program. The men who live at Iron House are starting over, maintaining employment and staying sober. As we walk the line of rescue, recovery and re-engagement as a mission and are continually seeking to be renewed in Christ, we are able to offer the same three methods of transformation to the broken, lost, and suffering men in our community.
