- Family Bridges, Inc. is a non-profit organization designed to serve the elderly, seniors, immigrants and disadvantaged in the Bay area. With a focus on the Asian community, Family Bridges includes five major programs that are designed to promote independence through information and learning. It is our goal to prevent many of the disadvantaged individuals in our community from becoming unemployed, institutionalized or isolated because of language or cultural barriers. Since its inception in 1968, Family Bridges has been at the forefront of providing services for monolingual and limited-English proficient (LEP) Asian immigrants. We serve approximately 10,000 unduplicated clients a year; 95% of our clients are Asian LEPs. Family Bridges programs are supported by funding from private foundations, government, and fundraising efforts.HONG FOOK ADULT DAY HEALTH CENTER and HONG FOOK HARRISON ADULT DAY HEALTH CENTER (康福園成人日間護理中心): provide services to frail adults, seniors, and their family members. The goal of these services is to encourage independence, thereby preventing the need for premature institutionalization. HONG LOK SENIOR CENTERS (耆英康樂中心): drop-in senior centers, which offer a continuum of care for seniors aged 60 and over. The centers offer an environment for seniors to strengthen their social network, engage in stimulating activities and receive social services. SOCIAL SERVICES UNIT (社會服務部): provides information and referral services as well as language assistance to low-income immigrants of all ages. Multilingual naturalization services and classes for citizenship tests are available.LAKE MERRITT CHILD CARE CENTER (美美兒童中心): a bilingual English/Chinese preschool for children ages 2-5. LMCC also offers after-school language and arts programs for older children. FRIENDLY VISITORS PROGRAM (親善探訪): helps home-bound seniors avoid social isolation by arranging for periodic social visits and phone calls from healthy mobile seniors.
