Health care expenditures on stroke related care exceeds $40 billion annually in the United States. The incidence of acute stroke has recently been estimated at over 800,000 strokes per year, of which approximately 195,000 are recurrent. Additionally, there are over 500,000 TIAs, which are commonly referred to as mini strokes and often precede strokes in many cases.In over 30% of stroke cases, no cause is determined, otherwise referred to a cryptogenic.A simple blood test for cause could stratify patients by cause to ensure the appropriate treatment pathways are adopted to prevent recurrence, resulting in better outcomes.Worldwide, there are 20 Million strokes, resulting in 5 Million deaths and 5 Million permanent disabilities and advanced imaging and other expensive procedures are not standard. A blood test for cause would be world changing for stroke victims and their families.
